Amazing, passionate, set in the fashion industry

Abby Green's Bought for the Frenchman's Pleasure will probably be on my top ten lists for 2008. I absolutely loved this book and from start to finish I could not put it down.
The story begins in New York but also includes Ireland, India and France and takes the reader on a worldwide journey with this couple, Sorcha Murphy and Romain deValois., Their eyes meet across the room and they can't look away, that's the way it is from the first moment they see each other and that's the way it is throughout the entire book. Tension, anger, sexual attraction, desire, all of it rolled into one. When Sorcha is asked to become the model to represent Romain's company and ad campaign she refuses the chance of a lifetime. Why? She remembers what he did to her years ago, remembered and wanted no part of him now!
Years ago their paths crossed but in not a nice way. Sorcha was accused of being a drug user, her reputation was completely destroyed by an interview Romain gave to the press. It was his Aunt who came to Sorcha's rescue, gave her another chance and is now her employer.
Romain has learned the hard way not to trust, not to trust love, his stepbrother, his deceased mother, no one. At one time in his life they have all let him down. Being a "user" is disgusting to him and he still suspects Sorcha is a user but cannot control his attraction to her. He's decided she is what he needs for his campaign and for his pleasure. It's like he's obsessed and he does let up on this woman and time and time again, circumstances all point to the fact that Sorcha should not be trusted!
Sorcha is "fiery" in everyway.....she's an incredible character, she lives up to her red hair and Irish heritage, she's loyal to her friends, passionate about drugs addiction and actually sets up a youth outreach centre in Dublin. She's also insanely in love with the man who would toss her in the trash, would use her until there was nothing left of her soul. This story will wrench your heart out........their passion leaps off the pages, their attraction for each other, , their love/hate feelings.........their story sizzles!
As for Romain, at first I wanted to sock him, kick him until I learned how emotionally he was hurt by his first love, his mother and his stepbrother. This is one steamy and sexy man who can't get Sorcha out of his system. But when all falls, he falls hard, I promise.
If you're a fan of "Top Model" or fashion week in NYC or the fashion runway in Paris or Milan....it's the glamour, the electricity the models generate, it's the intrigue of the entire fashion industry from the designers, to the models, to those wealthy enough to afford the luxury of designer high fashion. It's fabulous!

Huge Disappointment

First, let me just say that in no way do I think this book really deserves 2 stars, I think it's more befitting a lone star review, I only gave the extra star because I generally like Abby Green's work and I don't want to have her work associated with so many Harlequin assault-on-the-senses books.
Since others have given in depth reviews, I'll skip the plot description and go head long into the book's major issues. As another reviewer pointed out, while there was angst, it was ridiculously manufactured. A tabloid took a photo of her while she was unconscious from a rapist who had drugged her, and she was apparently a-okay with having the entire world believing her unconscious state was due to an alcohol and recreational drug overdose. Dear Harlequin, it's the 21st century, can someone quit writing these women with no backbone or inner strength? Can we please have even a hint of fortitude and gumption and intelligence. How about we make Sorcha someone who can stand up for herself and others? Someone who doesn't have to spend her adult life living in the shame of someone else's lie and who would have the person who drugged her arrested.
That was issue numero uno, and as egregious as that is, it pales in comparison to a heroine who is forever on the brink of, well, swooning. Again, 21st century. Every two pages, she's dizzy, lightheaded, flushed from seeing the hero, thinking about the hero, being in close proximity to the hero. Who could blame him for thinking she was on some sort of synthetic mood adjuster? Anyone who is constantly dizzy, is either on something or needs a medical consultation. After a while it went from demonstrative to quirky to tedious and finally to highly irritating.
Last but not least is the hero all but announcing that her punishment for being caught with drugs, was for her to become his mistress. For the last time, Harlequin, we are in the 21st century!!!!!!!! No one talks like that, and even if they did, not only would it be akin to rape, but would be grounds for a sexual harassment lawsuit. A plot really shouldn't involve the H blackmailing the h into having sex with him or risk loss of employment, a media scandal and/or an arrest. Shouldn't a book (even a romance book) fall into the realm of belief?
Unless you're given this book for free, pass. The author has much better books out there. This one is a swing and a miss.

This could have been such a good story; sadly, I think it missed the mark. I found it boring and so littered with overly descriptive paragraphs, and internal dialogue that I just started flipping my kindle in search of a real conversation. It's not like I wanted the h to be a druggie or boozer, but when she talks about going "off the rails"....I expected her to be a party girl.. Well, she was a pretend wild and crazy girl; she'd go to parties, accept alcohol and then pour it out into the plants or anywhere else. Her big shameful moment...... her non alcoholic drink was spiked, she drank it, she passed out, her pictured was taken, she doesn't know if she's still a virgin (she is), and her career was ruined because of that one picture. This book just didn't do it for me, I gave it a 3 because I finished it.....d:/
