About the Author

Alida Merlo is Professor of Criminology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Previously, she was a Professor of Criminal Justice at Westfield State University in Massachusetts. Her research is in the areas of juvenile justice, women and law, and criminal justice policy. She is the co-author (with Dean J. Champion and Peter J. Benekos) of The Juvenile Justice System: Delinquency, Processing, and the Law, 7th (Pearson), co-author (with Peter J. Benekos) of Crime Control, Politics & Policy, 2nd Anderson), co-editor (with Peter J. Benekos) of Controversies in Juvenile Justice and Delinquency, 2nd edition, (LexisNexis/ Anderson); and co-editor (with Joycelyn M. Pollock) of Women, Law & Social Control, edition (Allyn and Bacon). She is the past-president of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. In 2014, she received the Outstanding Teacher Award from the College of Health and Human Services at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. In 2012, she was presented with the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences Minority Mentor Award. In 2004, she received the Academy’s Fellow Award.

Peter Benekos is Professor of criminal justice and sociology at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania. He has conducted research in the areas of juvenile justice, corrections, and public policy. He is the co-author (with Dean Champion and Alida V. Merlo) of The Juvenile Justice System: Delinquency, Processing, and the Law, 7th (LexisNexis/Anderson), and co-editor (with Alida V. Merlo) of Controversies in Juvenile Justice and Delinquency, 2nd Outstanding Mentor Award presented by the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. Dr. Benekos is past president of the Northeastern Association of Criminal Justice Sciences and was a trustee of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. Dean John Champion, before his death from leukemia in 2009, was Professor of Criminal Justice at Texas A&M University in Laredo, Texas. Previously, he taught at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, California State University-Long Beach, and Minot State University. Dr. Champion authored and/or edited over sixteen textbooks, many of them in multiple editions. For the first six editions of The Juvenile Justice System: Delinquency, Processing, and the Law, Dr. Champion was the sole author. "The longstanding doctrine of patent exhaustion provides that the initial authorized sale of a patented item terminates all patent rights to that item." Quanta, 553 U.S. at 625, 128 S.Ct. 2109. The rationale underlying the doctrine rests upon the theory that an unconditional sale of a patented device exhausts the patentee's right to control the purchaser's use of that item thereafter because the patentee has bargained for and received full value for the goods. Ok compilation

Nice compilation of cases regarding patent exhaustion. The price is reasonable, but not great as there is only a small number of cases included. If you are patient, sometimes it shows up on the free list. Alternatively, the cases and oral arguments can be freely downloaded from the CAFC web site.

About the Author
Marianne M. Jennings, Emeritus Professor of Legal and Ethical Studies, has taught at the WP Carey School of Business, Arizona State University since 1977. She has six textbooks and four monographs in circulation in the areas of business ethics, ethical culture, and legal environment. She was director of the Lincoln Center for Applied Ethics from 1995 to 1999. Ms. Jennings has worked with government agencies, professional organizations, colleges and universities, and Fortune 100 companies on ethics training and culture. She is a contributing editor of Corporate Finance Review and Real Estate Law Journal. Two of her books have been named Library Journal's book of the year. Her books have been translated into three languages. Her book, THE SEVEN SIGNS OF ETHICAL COLLAPSE, was published by St Martin's Press and has been used as both an audit tool and a primer by numerous organizations for creating and sustaining an ethical culture. In 2011, she was named one of the Top 100 Thought Leaders by Trust Across America and in 2012, she was named one of the 100 most influential people in business ethics by Ethisphere magazine. Ms. Jennings served on the board of directors for Arizona Public Service (now Pinnacle West), the owner of the Palo Verde Nuclear Station, from 1987 through 2000. She has served on INPO's advisory council since 2005. In 2015, she was named an affiliated scholar with the Center for the Study of Economic Liberty at Arizona State University. Informative, but she references a lot of cases that you have to Google on your own!

I used it for my Business Law class. The book was informative, but she purposely left a lot of information out whenever she made references. My professor's theory is that it gets us to research it on our own. Make sure that you have Google ready to look up some of the cases that she mentions on here. Other than that, the information was pretty solid.

I have read many books on estate planning (I am not a lawyer but spend time in legal libraries). This book by Lee R. Phillips is an important addition because it covers an aspect not found in the standard books on estate planning. Mr. Phillips is writing from the heart. I believe he is sincere. He helps the reader cope with the emotional aspects of having to deal with the legal profession, or any professional. Nowadays lawyers purchase software from LexisNexis or WestLaw or one of the other major sources just as CPAs no longer do tax return calculations (they buy packages of software to do it). The client is presented with a package deal at a high price. That sounds OK, but the problem is that often no one listens to what the client really wants. This is not unique to lawyers - it is true of medical doctors, city planning officials, and in other situations where the lay person is dealing with a busy professional. The client meets with a lawyer, who then passes some notes on to a secretary (paralegal) to run the software with input from his interview. The secretary was not present at the meeting and did not hear directly what the client wanted. This is a situation ripe for errors and mistakes. My family has had mistakes made in every generational transfer via estates. Every one! It is important to be prepared. At the very least read one book from Nolo Press by Denis Clifford, JD such as Planning Your Own Estate. Then read this book by Lee Phillips, JD and also read Beyond the Grave by two lawyers Gerald M. Condon and Jeffrey L. Condon to see what people plan and then what can actually happen even when there are no mistakes. Everyone is a lay person in some field. Best book on estate planning and asset protection

As an attorney, I've read many books on estate planning and asset protection. Protecting Your Financial Future is the best treatment of the subject I've seen. It's got powerful info that even financial and legal professionals will learn from, but it's easily understood by the layperson too.
One of the best aspects of the book is its writing style. It was actually enjoyable to read; intermingling strategies with anecdotes that illustrate principles.
Living trusts and other asset protection tools are often used incorrectly. The authors of Protecting Your Financial Future help readers avoid common pitfalls and build wealth with strategies all my clients should use. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a trust or thinks they will benefit from a trust. This book will give you the answers you need for the best possible plan.

An interesting book on a not so interesting topic

This book is very readable and clear. It makes a potentially boring topic interesting and understandable. It is insightful and helps make the point that trusts are important for those with even just modest estates. It is a bit repetitious at times and contains a few too many personal stories, but it is otherwise motivating and a very useful guide for those unfamiliar with the legal world.

Protecting your financial future review

What a fantastic book. Trusts are the only real way to protect familywealth while passing it to ones heirs. There are lots of attorneys preparing trusts. Once they get paid for the initial trust, The trust probably goes to a safe deposit box or executor and the trust may never be populated. It is up the the person who purchased the trust to POPULATE IT with Stocks, bonds, real estate, insurance etc. If the trust is not populated, it is useless. This book explains what needs to happen and takes up where most trust attorneys leave off. This book has the potential to save 50% of a couples wealth once both the husband and wife who drafted the orignal trust have passed on. If you want your wealth to pass on to your heirs, you need this book. The limits of protected wealth reverts from the present 3 million to 1 million in 2011. If that law is allowed to expire. This book is easily read and understood by non attorneys. Everyone needs a revocable trust, if you have been divorced and have children with two different spouses, then you doubly need this book. A very amusing & intriguing Yaoi involving Royalty & Marriage!

This series is very light in any Yaoi Contrnt compared to many others. It is used mostly as a means to propel the rest of the story forward. The Royal intrigue, marriages & political machinations among other countries & royal siblings vying or trying to hold onto/ fight over the Royal Crown/Throne, with unexpected love interests thrown in.

Any course of study on constitutional and administrative law can be easy or hard depending on whether you like the subject and understand the British political and legal systems.

Teaching the subject has often caused some problems for both tutor and student- mainly from those overseas learners who may not be as familiar with our system in the United Kingdom which can seem strange to those in other jurisdictions.

So, to the rescue comes Pearson’s “Blueprints” series and author Chris Monaghan has brought together an excellent learning programme in four parts covering the following: constitutional fundamentals; government institutions and the prerogative; human rights; and, finally, administrative law. The sub-heading for these “Blueprints” is explained as “your plan for learning” and that is exactly what you get!

The Pearson mission is “to help people make more of their lives through learning” and the way they achieve this aim is to combine innovative learning technology with trusted content and educational expertise. The end product is what they describe as providing “engaging and effective learning experiences that serve people wherever and whenever they are learning” so the titles are excellent in particular for the distance learner.

Pearson Education provides both digital learning tools and testing programmes with their curriculum materials which offers a fresh introduction to this substantive law area.

I WIN AT READING.

Eckrich as a new super fan!

I have to say first that I was planning to save this book for a road trip this weekend. BUT after reading one of her other titles, I was in serious withdrawal mode. Not something I often get from a book. Family, please forgive me for "mmhmm"ing you all day today. I didn't even realized I hadn't eaten myself until dinner. I was SO wrapped up. Thank goodness my kids know how to make their own lunch.

I know I sound like a raving lunatic, but Eckrich transported me completely to a new world with her story. I was THERE, in the book, experiencing everything right along side the characters, the story playing out like a movie in my mind. Or maybe like a vivid dream of my own alternate existence. I love books, this is no secret, but it's not often that I feel compelled to go loony tunes over telling everyone how AMAZING it is. This is just one of those rare, stand out books. Eckrich deserves a cult following.

Oh, and I actually have to stop and take a minute right here to tell you how I well-written this is! Like, obviously I am obsessed with the story and characters BUT to read an ebook with great editing! That is the difference between a bowl of ice cream and a sundae with all the fixings. This story is perfect as a Young Adult / New Adult crossover based in a milieu of the author's creation based on existing folk lore. (FYI, I'm from NJ.... so yeah.) Serenity--ARE YOU ME?! From her friendships (friendship?) to her relationships with family and eventually Sam, I could just relate to her left right upside down and sideways.

Intrigue. Mystery. Romance. Danger. Suspense.

THIS BOOK HAS IT ALL.

I am obsessed. I feel like I "win" at reading for having read this. Now it's your turn.

I just finished Kissing the Devil and I NEED more!

Sometimes I read a book that seems like it will be resolved, but then bam it ends and you're left with this overwhelming need for more. I just finished Kissing the Devil and I NEED more! I can’t tell you how much I loved this book. Serenity, Jezebel, Sam, Josh, and even the friction between Serenity and her mother, were so rich and relatable. Its so much easier to get into a book and get thoroughly absorbed by the story when the characters are real. Shannon Eckrich hasn’t written a story yet that hasn’t completely captivated me. Kissing the Devil is no exception. I love how she took an urban legend of the Jersey Devil and put a different spin on it. She made it rivetting.
I think if you’re a fan of paranormal or urban legends, then you will enjoy this book. Paranormal Tendencies give it 5 stars. I can’t wait for the next book!

Kissing the Devil is a thrilling paranormal mystery that will have you hooked after only a few pages. Eckrich creates and brings to life the dangerous tale of the New Jersey Devil, a beast who has haunted the dreams of Serenity Cantwell ever since her encounter with it when she was young. As girls around town begin to disappear, the Jersey Devil causes even more fear around the town and to Serenity.

Eckrich creates a thrilling tale full of secrets and love that will change Serenity's life forever. I highly recommend this book to lovers of paranormal stories. Romance, action, and the paranormal world all collide into this amazing book. The ending will have you dying to read more of this thrilling tale. Eckrich has done a great job with this novel and I give it a 5/5 stars.

Lucien J. Dhooge is an Associate Professor of Law at the University of the Pacific. Everything about this was just okay...

I have had this graphic novel on my to be read shelf for quite a while and was excited to finally get around to reading it. I was drawn to the colorful artwork and the interesting premise. This ended up being okay but not great.

As mentioned I enjoyed the deep and vibrant colors in the artwork; however the artwork itself was a bit lacking. A lot of the characters are overly muscular and shiny looking. There were also many scenes where characters just didn’t look in perspective or were distorted. Given that I wasn’t a huge fan of the artwork. The style was very inconsistent as well; some scenes the people were very realistic and some very cartoony...it was odd.

The premise sounded interesting but also ended up being very cliche’. Tower is older than he looks and has claimed a vendetta against all things dark because of a mysterious past that involves the loss of a loved one. All very typical dark urban fantasy here; nothing all that interesting and creative. It was okay but nothing spectacular.

I felt the same way about the the story and dialogue; it was okay but not great. The dialogue doesn’t flow all that well and scenes come off sounding either very over-the-top or just awkward.

Overall everything about this was just okay and I wasn’t super excited to read any more about John Tower by the end. The premise is interesting and I did enjoy the color palette of the drawings, however everything else was just a bit off for me. This is one of those graphic novels that held a lot of promise and could have been something epic, but fell flat.

Matt Wagner's story is interesting and exciting. Bisley's art is awesome. He has come a long way since the first time I noticed his art (the first Lobo mini-series) This book is beautiful. Just beautiful.
