A Practical Guide for Litigators

I should begin by saying that I’ve had the opportunity to serve under Dean Korsak, the editor. Korsak is without a doubt the smartest JAG I know. Furthermore, his litigation skill set is well beyond that of his peers.
I highly recommend “The Young Lawyer in Court.” I’m currently a 3L who has competed from Sacramento to Washington D.C. in mock trial competitions. While I feel comfortable in a mock courtroom, this book serves as a guide for the real courtroom. Simply put, the book offers a wonderful summary of all the tips I have learned from experienced lawyers and seasoned judges.
The book walks the young lawyer through the trial process from start to finish. The author’s edits ensure that you are only reading information that is vital to your success in the courtroom. Even stylistic nuances like your tone with the judge or how to deal with a particular type of witness are discussed. While ideal for the general practitioner, the book can be used in any type of practice.
The young lawyer is also likely a busy lawyer, and this entire book can be read within a half day. I feel confident that I will be able to succeed in the courtroom thanks in part to this book. Thanks Dean for brushing off the dust from Earl Cox’s book and creating a valuable tool for all lawyers.
