Justine's personal story had me hooked from the beginning

Justine provides a unique insight into a personal legal battle to start the book, and she grabbed my attention with "Denied. Denied. Denied. Denied. And...DENIED!" After reading the rest of her story I wondered how someone could go through all that. She ends the introduction with this important quote and one I feel everyone person should take to heart. "Always remember…it is NEVER okay for someone to harm or hurt you either physically or emotionally. It is wrong. No one has the right to do any of those to you and they are responsible for their actions."
As I read the following chapters and learned more about her 7 step approach to finding the right attorney. Starting with "Step 1 - Your Mindset Is Important" seemed like a great place to begin. Most of my life when I had the right mindset going into something I usually was more successful when it came to the desired outcome. My favorite quote from this chapter was "Going about your search (Attorney) while highly emotional is not a good idea. It's like a bull running amok in a fine china shop"
For me, the best information in this book is the bonus content at the end where Justine interviews Lawyers from different disciplines. She even points out in her 4th step that checking for a lawyer's discipline is one of the most important steps one can do. She mentioned in this chapter that she didn't do this before her lawsuit and then after the trial was over learned that he had been sued for legal malpractice…ouch!
My favorite quote from the entire book is in Step 5. Gronwald states that "interviewing the attorney is one of the most crucial due diligence steps that must be taken during the decision making process and yet, sadly, most people don't do a very good job of conducting one - if at all"
If there is anything I wish would have been better, it was the formatting of the book didn't quite look right. I had no problems reading the book and the content was great, but if there is one thing I'd like to see Justine do, it is how the book is laid out.
After reading this book I can safely say that I will definitely approach my search for an attorney differently than I did last time I needed legal advice. Thank God it worked out okay for me, but I can see how it could have turned out completely different. Thanks for the easy to follow steps Justine. I highly recommend that anyone needing legal advice or services read this book first.

With a book like this, her readers can make more rational

I've been practicing law for over 25 years and know how difficult and stressful it can to find the right attorney at the right time to handle an important legal matter. In my experience, people normally procrastinate for a while at the start because they would really rather do almost anything else than deal with lawyers and the judicial system, especially when their legal matter involves (potentially) contentious litigation. Then, as the first deadline for taking action approaches (and panic sets in), there's a mad scramble to find a competent lawyer fast. That's how mistakes happen. Big ones. I've seen it too many times (when they don't choose me). Justine's book addresses this common problem in a direct, personal and effective way. With a book like this, her readers can make more rational, informed decisions about the right lawyer for their needs when the stakes are high and time is of the essence. That's the only way to go when your time comes and, for most of us, it eventually will.

In a legal world of wolves, you need an advocate !

I have lived relying on Nolo Press books for years as well as having hired ( And fired) ineffective attorneys while in business. When it came to personal matters emotions take over and then it becomes a bit difficult. A LOT more difficult. Justine Gronwald's book breaks away from the Nolo legalese regular can't understand and draws from her own unfortunate experience and a ton of research talking directly with top attorneys. She explains in plain language to those who need it most how to find help in a environment where attorneys know each other and can either work for or against you. She has taken this information and made it available in the most affordable format to help everyone. You can't lose with this one.
